'Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counsellors there is safety'

Proverbs 11:14

Every child at Holy Family is a Chaplain! All children, no matter what the age, play a vital role in sharing and promoting our school virtues, as well as the Gospel virtues, within the school community and out into the wider community.  In addition, Holy Family has a dedicated team of Chaplaincy Leads from Year 1 to Year 6 who play a vital role in coordinating activities that encompass the Catholic faith, whilst focusing on our school virtues of Love, Respect, Kindness, Friendship, Forgiveness, Honesty and Compassion.

Our Chaplaincy Leads have been commissioned by Bishop Declan to carry out this important role and they proudly wear their special badges to carry out their duties throughout the school.  The Chaplaincy Leads regularly meet to review their action plan. Within these meetings, they have the opportunity to plan events, update the weekly blog and make decisions about fund raising.

All of our Leads have signed their Chaplaincy Promise which is displayed in all classes, reminding everyone of their important role in school.

If you have any wonderful ideas that you would like to share with the Chaplaincy Lead Team, please tell Mrs Hatherall or Mrs Kordula.

Why we want to be Chaplaincy Leads?

Chaplaincy Lead Commissioning Service 2025

On Thursday 20th November, our newly appointed Chaplaincy Lead members went to Clifton Cathedral to join other leads for a celebratory Mass and commissioning service led by Bishop Bosco.

All Chaplaincy Leads were presented with their badges by the Bishop. Following the service, all schools had an opportunity to meet Bishop Bosco and have photographs taken with him.  It was an amazing opportunity for all pupils to come together and share what they do.

Chaplaincy - After School Club

The Chaplaincy Lead Team meets every Wednesday, after school, from 3 - 4pm and is led by Mrs Hatherall. The children play a vital role in enhancing and promoting our school virtues as well as modelling faith in action to their peers, staff and the wider community.  All of our Chaplains take joy in wearing their Chaplaincy Lead badges and carrying out different responsibilities.

The Chaplaincy Lead Team aims to:

  • To help the school to grow as a community of faith.
  • To encourage the pupils to live their faith in daily living.
  • To support Liturgy, prayer and the spiritual life of the school.
  • To involve pupils in fundraising for charities.
  • To continue to develop strong links with the Parish.
  • To support the school in its Mission Statement and virtues.

The meetings give a chance for every Lead Chaplain to share their ideas so that together they make decisions about how we can promote the Catholic ethos of our school. Chaplains will have the chance to lead prayer in Gospel worships, whole school Celebration of the Word/Reconciliation Services, plan and lead charity events throughout the year, monitor class reflection areas and class display boards and help plan prayer events for key points of the Liturgical seasons.

The Chaplaincy Lead Team has its own newsletter and also contributes to our school newsletters and our website so that our family and parishioners can learn about their important role in school.

The Leads have be involved in writing a prayer to commemorate the schools’ 60th anniversary celebrations. They have been drawing posters to promote the Rosary and they continue to complete a Chaplaincy book to show the wonderful work the school has produced.

'Going forward we are going to be caring for our Sanctuary garden, litter picking around the school site, monitoring prayer spaces around the school to give our views.  We will also be inviting the younger members of the school to use our prayer spaces and carrying out many more lovely activities.'

 Sanctuary Garden Work

At last, the weather was dry and bright and the Chaplaincy Lead Team were able to tidy our Sanctuary garden.

They dug out weeds, planted flowers for the insects to enjoy and they were even helped out by a member of the local community came and cut back any overgrown plants. Doing this, they enthusiastically demonstrated 'Care for our common home!' Laudato Si.

This beautiful garden space is a place where pupils can seek sanctuary...somewhere they can be still and be with God and be at one with the peacefulness.  Thank you to everyone who joined the Team in their hard work.

Autumn 2024 - Rosaries

The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary , one of the best known Catholic devotions. The best way to celebrate this is to pray the Rosary.

The Chaplaincy Club have been busy making some Rosaries which they sold during the last week of term. Funds raised will be used to fund further activities for our school Sanctuary.
