Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)
At Holy Family we understand the importance that play has on a child's development and well-being. We launched the OPAL project back in October 2022 to bring more freedom, exploration and fun into playtimes. During lunchtime the children are able to use the whole of our outdoor spaces, the field, both play grounds, trim trail, fort and wooded area. Our school council are helping to lead the positive changes and are having regular meetings to discuss OPAL and have even started leading some assemblies.

Our New Sandpit!
Local builders, Lovell Partnerships LTD supported the development of our OPAL playtimes by building a giant sand pit for all the children to use during their break time.
We want to give a huge thank you to Lovell for their generous donation - it has made a great addition to our playtimes.

OPAL Success! Holy Family gain a Platinum OPAL award!
In September 2022 Holy Family embarked on an exciting journey to embed the OPAL (Outdoor play and learning) initiative across our school.
This Wednesday the school took part in a final audit and we are thrilled to announce that Holy Family received the ‘Platinum Award’! Not only is this the highest award we can achieve, we are also the first OPAL accredited school in Swindon.
This award recognises that Holy Family’s outdoor play provision is not only some of the best in Swindon, but some of the best in the country bring huge benefits to pupil’s physical and mental health.
We are so incredibly proud of all of the staff, children, governors and families who have made this possible and a special thank you to the OPAL team Mrs Woodfield, Mrs Coates, Mrs Struve, Mrs Dunn our parent champion and Mrs McGrogan our governor.
